Few plants have seeding deadlines tighter than wildflowers. We recommend planting most of our Spring products as soon as the final chance of frost has passed, but it is absolutely essential to do this with wildflowers. If you wait for too long, then the flowers will not be given the chance to germinate and bloom effectively.
This year has been particularly challenging for wildflower fans. Winter reared its ugly head…and then reared its ugly head again…and has continued to visit with snowfall and frost when many expect temperatures in the 60s. No one is sure when the last frost will be!
This is, however, good news for those late to the party. If you haven’t bought wildflower seed yet, now you can do so without worrying about missing planting season!
But it’s ESSENTIAL that you buy soon, so we can get your seeds to you in time for planting!
Hancock has been busy during the “offseason,” bringing in new wildflower products and adjusting mixtures to create the perfect blend for your needs. Check out this list of our newest and most popular products, and order soon; you get free shipping on every product featured in this post!
What if we told you that there was a wildflower mix that was easy to grow, tolerant of drought, that will attract pollinating insects and hummingbirds, and will grow almost anywhere in the continental United States? Oh, and of course, it blooms beautifully and vibrant for years?
Maybe this explains why Hancock’s new Tough 12 Wildflower Seed Mix has become one of our biggest sellers.
As the name suggests, this blend features 12 different flowers—including coneflowers, coreopses, clovers, susans, sunflowers and more. No matter if you’re a beginner or an expert, Tough 12 will give your property a beautiful plot of wildflowers.
Hancock’s Southeast Wildflower Mix
Our Southeast Wildflower Mix has been one of our most popular blends for years. “Why mess with a good thing?” said the Seed Man. “Because we can make it even better!!!!!!” excitedly responded the Seed Lady.
It was with this attitude that we researched and experimented, creating a new and improved version of Hancock’s Southeast Wildflower Mix, both more colorful and durable than before.
This blend includes a mixture of 17 wildflowers, covering every color in the ROYGBIV spectrum, giving you years of beautiful blooms.
Bee & Butterfly Blends
Are you looking to bring beautiful butterflies to your garden? Are you trying to help stimulate the local bee population? Hancock has several blends that can help you achieve these goals.
Our Bee Feed Wildflower Seed Mix provides bee forage throughout the entire growing season, with a blend of both annuals and perennials. If you’re looking to assist honey bees in particular, our Honey Bee Wildflower Seed Mix features a blend that promotes honey development from your favorite insects.
Maybe you’re looking to attract butterflies and birds, instead. If this is the case, give our Bird & Butterfly Wildflower Seed Mix a shot!
Sunflowers
Don’t forget sunflowers! These big blossoms are one of the most popular varieties of wildflower, and Hancock has several options for fans.
Both Maximilian Sunflower and Wild Sunflower are a favorite of all animals, not just bees and bugs. Many farmers like to mix them into their forage mixtures for grazing by cattle, sheep, and goats. Hunters also enjoy Maximilian, as deer, turkey, dove and other wildlife love to munch on it.
Wild Sunflower is recognizable, growing along roads all across the country. Maximilian, however, has one stalk and many blooms.
