Merry Christmas from the Hancock Family to yours! The Hancock Seed Company does its best to not forget the true meaning of the season, the birth of Jesus Christ.
Most modern babies receive plenty of clothing and toys when they’re born. Jesus was an exception, however, as the Three Kings brought him gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The Seed Lady certainly encourages The Seed Man to consider gold as a gift, and exotic spices can be nice...but you know what would be a more useful gift? Especially around the time B.C. turned into A.D.? Seed!
Seed has made many changes since that era, thanks to technology and horticulture. But the need for seed has remained the same for centuries, and Hancock is happy to continue an industry that traces its roots all the way to the Book of Genesis. Seed makes frequent appearances throughout the Bible, from its earliest days (the aforementioned Genesis) until the very end (although the seed mainly burns during Revelation).
Hancock has gathered several references to seed from the Bible, with links to demonstrate how they are still relevant today. We’re blessed to be involved in this wonderful profession, and blessed to help all of our customers with their growing needs. Thank you for your support, and may all of our blessings continue on into 2018!
Genesis 1: 30
And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—everything that has life." And that is what happened.
How long have seeds been around? Longer than humans! God hadn’t even created Adam and Eve yet, and here He is talking about what he’s going to feed all of the animals he just worked up. Hancock Seed can’t quite keep up with his production levels, but we try to offer food plots for every wild animal you can think of, including Hancock’s Deer Greens and Hancock’s Turkey Food Plot Mix.
Deuteronomy 11:15
He will give you lush pastureland for your livestock, and you yourselves will have all you want to eat.
This is subtle, but consider the order: First, God gives us pasture for our livestock and second, we have all we want to eat. That suggests we have to do some work with the “lush pastureland” first before we can enjoy the milk and meat of livestock! That’s what Hancock is here for. Hancock’s Argentine Bahia Grass Seed and other pasture products will keep your cattle fed throughout the year.
I Kings 4:28
They also brought the necessary barley and straw for the royal horses in the stables.
Here’s one verse where Hancock benefits from the passage of time, and the progression of farm science. Although horses still enjoy hay and barley, if you want to give your horses the “royal” treatment, you have to go for Hancock’s Horse Pasture Grass Seed Mix if you live in a warm climate! This mix includes Argentine Bahia, Pensacola Bahia, Common Bermuda, and Brown Millet. Nothing but the best!
II Chronicles 31:5
When the people of Israel heard these requirements, they responded generously by bringing the first share of their grain, new wine, olive oil, honey, and all the produce of their fields. They brought a large quantity—a tithe of all they produced.
If you want to grow your own grapes or olives, unfortunately Hancock can’t help you. But we can definitely lend a hand if you’re looking to encourage bees in your backyard! Hancock’s Bee Seed Mix produces a bounty of pollen-producing blooms that will kick your local population into gear. If you raise bees for honey making, this mix is for you.
Genesis 42: 1-2
When Jacob heard that grain was available in Egypt, he said to his sons, "Why are you standing around looking at one another?
The sons of Jacob may have been hesitant to check out the Egyptian Seed Company because of its shoddy customer service (as Jacob and the Israelites would discover later during the Book of Genesis). You’ve got nothing to fear if you purchase Egyptian Wheat from Hancock Seed; we treat all of our customers great!
