Product Information

As it stands in the weather, it loses tannic acid and becomes more and more palatable through the fall. This sorghum makes excellent seed for all game birds, including quail, turkey, pheasants, doves and ducks. Deer will also feed heavily on the grain in fall and winter. The WGF Sorghum has a life cycle of 90-120 days.

Planting Time: This seed is best planted in the Spring & Summer. The soil temperature should be at least 60 degrees and is usually planted between May 1st and June 10th in northern states. This seed can be planted later in the year in southern states but needs at least 95 days of warm weather for optimal growth and maturity.

Planting Rate and Depth: WGF Sorghum is best sowed at a rate of 10-20lbs per acre when broadcasted. The optimal seeding depth is ½ inch and this can be achieved by dragging the area after broadcasting the seed. If the area is being drilled, the sowing rate would be 8-10lbs per acre and will still need to be at a depth of ½ inch for optimal growth.

Fertilization: This fertilizer that is best for the WGF Sorghum will vary depending on soil environment. We recommend getting your soil tested to determine what nutrients are lacking in the soil before using a fertilizer. Always be careful when fertilizing newly seeded areas to prevent burning the new seeds.

Optimal conditions for growth: WGF Sorghum is best planted into well-drained soils with a pH of 6.0-7.5. The WGF Sorghum grows best with daily moisture after planting and will take approximately 1-2 weeks for germination under optimal conditions.

Planting Tips:  WGF Sorghum has good early seeding vigor and is easy to establish. This seed can be mixed with other seeds such as Millets or Sunflowers for a diverse food plot for game birds or can be mixed with summer peas for a diverse deer plot.

Companion plants – Brown Top Millet, Sunflower, Dove Proso Millet, Iron Clay Cowpeas, etc.

Instructions

When choosing to start a new lawn, remove old vegetation by using a de-thatcher, power rake or tiller to kill the existing vegetation. Rake or drag the area to remove debris and dead grass for a clean area. Ensure the soil is leveled and loosened to allow the seed to have good soil contact once spread on a clean seed bed.

If you have an area with heavy weed coverage, we recommend starting fresh by killing and removing the existing vegetation. If you choose to use chemicals, herbicides or fertilizers, you must check with the product's manufacturer prior to planting new seed to ensure the proper waiting period.

When overseeding an existing area, mow your lawn at the lowest setting and bag the clippingsx. Rake or drag any areas that have dead thatch or debris.
