Product Detail
- Defiance variety - Sugar Cane Aphid Resistant
- Used for cover crops, silage, hay and grazing
- Quick establishment and high yielding
- Very palatable
- Treated seed
Product Information
Sterile sorghum will not reseed itself, therefore there shouldn't be any regrowth from seed. The Sterile Sorghum has about 70 days to mid-bloom and 95 days to maturity and can reach heights of 6-8ft tall. There are approximately 19,000 - 23,000 seeds per pound.

Plant during spring or summer at a rate of 15 to 25 lbs. per acre. Plant at a depth of 1/2 in. Apply fertilizer at a rate of 350 to 450 lbs. per acre.
Hay Production: Sterile sorghum should be planted at a higher (20 to 30 lbs.) seed rate for hay production. This increases yield, and decreases the exposed area for weeds to fill in between cuttings. It should be harvested after the plants reach 24 inches or higher. The maximum quality TDN (Total Digestible Nutrients) is between 24 and 36 in. in height.
Grazing: Begin cattle grazing at 24 in., and rotate when plants are grazed down to 8 in. The planting rate for grazing should be 15 to 25 lbs. per acre.
