Product Information
The Bermudagrass genus has centers of origin in Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and China. Most cultivars originate from African germplasm, with a few recent ones tracing back to China. Royal Bengal uniquely comes from material selected in the Indian subcontinent (from Bangladesh). Its unique genetic source allows for higher genetic diversity.
Royal Bengal exhibits high turf quality across a range of environments. It has shown good performance in climates from tropical to arid and up to the Transition zone. It has shown moderate cold tolerance and good resistance to spring Dead Spot. It tolerates high heat, drought, and saline conditions. Royal Bengal has high density with aggressive stolons and rhizomes. The high density helps prevent weed invasion.
Royal Bengal can be used for sports fields, home lawns, parks, schools, and golf course tees and fairways. Its rapid establishment makes it excellent for repairing damaged areas in seeded or vegetative Bermudagrasses. It has improved Fall color retention (similar to Yukon, Princess 77, and Riviera). Germination of this grass typically occurs in 5-7 days under ideal conditions with the first mowing at 18-21 days, depending on usage. Full coverage should be in 4-6 weeks under ideal conditions. Plant seed at 2 - 3 lbs. per 1,000 square feet or 90 to 125 lbs. per acre.
Remove all old vegetation to prepare a clean seedbed by means of a disc. Drag or rake area to loosen and level any hard or uneven spots if needed. Apply a slow-release starter fertilizer at the recommended rate. Drag, rake or roll lightly to cover the seed.
When choosing to start a new lawn, remove old vegetation by using a de-thatcher, power rake or tiller to kill the existing vegetation. Rake or drag the area to remove debris and dead grass for a clean area. Ensure the soil is leveled and loosened to allow the seed to have good soil contact once spread on a clean seed bed.
If you have an area with heavy weed coverage, we recommend starting fresh by killing and removing the existing vegetation. If you choose to use chemicals, herbicides or fertilizers, you must check with the product's manufacturer prior to planting new seed to ensure the proper waiting period.
When overseeding an existing area, mow your lawn at the lowest setting and bag the clippingsx. Rake or drag any areas that have dead thatch or debris.
