Product Information

Sunflower seeds are the most popular seed for bird feed. Peredovik Sunflowers grow 4 to 5 ft. tall and provide a nutritious, high-energy food source for birds.

All types of sunflower seeds originate from the common sunflower, Helianthus annuus, although there are many specialized and hybrid flower varieties that create different bloom sizes, stalk heights, and seed yields. The seeds they produce are similar, however, and Sunflower seed is a universally popular birdseed.

When compared to striped sunflower seeds, black oil sunflower seeds are meatier and have a higher oil content, giving birds more nutrition and calories in every bite. Black oil seeds also have thinner shells, making them easier for small birds to crack.

Sunflowers are a great addition to game bird fields for dove, quail, turkey and pheasant. Planted with Millet, Sorghum, Sesame, or other seed yielding varieties, this creates a diverse seed supply for the birds. Common dove fields are planted in strips of Millet, Sunflowers, Milo (Sorghum) and Sesame. This allows the grower to mow off small portions of each variety as the season approaches to attract birds. This plant matures in approximately 100 days.

Instructions

When choosing to start a new lawn, remove old vegetation by using a de-thatcher, power rake or tiller to kill the existing vegetation. Rake or drag the area to remove debris and dead grass for a clean area. Ensure the soil is leveled and loosened to allow the seed to have good soil contact once spread on a clean seed bed.

If you have an area with heavy weed coverage, we recommend starting fresh by killing and removing the existing vegetation. If you choose to use chemicals, herbicides or fertilizers, you must check with the product's manufacturer prior to planting new seed to ensure the proper waiting period.

When overseeding an existing area, mow your lawn at the lowest setting and bag the clippingsx. Rake or drag any areas that have dead thatch or debris.
