Hancock's Turf Type Tall Fescue grass seed is a high density, dark green and excellent choice for home lawns, parks, playgrounds and turf applications. Hancock Seed Co. hand selected the best varieties to use in our custom fescue blend.
Hancock's Turf Type Tall Fescue is one of the darkest-green tall fescues available. This 3-way blend performs well under both high and low maintenance, and in the extreme environments of both the southeast and the desert southwest.
The hot and dry conditions of late summer are tough on turf. Add shade, poor soil and traffic to the equation, and most grasses don't stand a chance. Hancock's Turf Type Tall Fescue blend is a persistent, endophyte-enhanced variety that thrives in adverse summer conditions. Its dark green color, medium leaf texture and high disease resistance are uncompromised by heat, shade, low fertility soil, high salt conditions, low mowing and high traffic.
This versatile turf-type fescue blend has high resistance to brown patch and stem rust. It also has a dwarf growth habit for reduced mowing and a uniform appearance.
The Hancock's Turf Type Tall Fescue blend contains the following varieties but may be subject to change depending on availability.
- Escalade Tall Fescue
- Arica Tall Fescue
- Arid 3 Tall Fescue
Adaptation
Hancock's Turf Type Tall Fescue blend is adapted though the cool season turfgrass areas in the north, though the transition zone, into the southeast and southwest. This blend is adaptable to a diverse range of soil types and will tolerate a pH range of 5.5 to 7.5. It is recommended for home lawns, golf course roughs, parks and playgrounds, sports fields, and other low maintenance areas where top-quality tall fescue is desired. It is also used as a quality sod grass. Hancock's Fescue can be combined with other improved varieties of turf-type tall fescues and may also be mixed with 5-10% Kentucky Bluegrass.

Remove all old vegetation to prepare a clean seedbed by means of a rake. Drag or rake the area to both loosen and level any hard or uneven spots if needed. Apply a slow-release starter fertilizer at the recommended rate of 5 lbs. Per 1,000 sq. ft. for lawns. Fertilize your lawn three times a year for best results.
Broadcast seed at recommended rate. Drag, rake or roll lightly to cover the seed, no more than 1/4 in. below surface. If you are overseeding an existing lawn or pasture, it is essential to mow existing grass low and incorporate seed 1/4 in. into the soil for best results. Apply lawn irrigation for approximately 30 minutes every evening until soil is damp, and germination has occurred. Irrigate newly-seeded lawns every other day until the grass reaches 6 inches, then water recommended 3 times a week, if needed.
Hancock's Turf Type Tall Fescue can tolerate mowing heights as low as 1 in., but a 1.5 - 3 in. mowing height is recommended.
