Product Information
Champion GQ is a three way blend of endophyte-enhanced perennial ryegrasses: 34.18% Zoom, 33.89% Monsieur, 31.09% Karma. These varieties are subject to change due to availability.

Champion GQ Perennial Ryegrass Seed was developed with an emphasis on selection based on qualities turf professionals have told us are most important: rapid establishment, stress and disease resistance, and rapid recovery. Champion GQ is composed of the SR 4000 series and other exceptional varieties of perennial ryegrasses adapted for your specific region. Champion GQ offers rapid establishment, stress and disease resistance as well as rapid recovery.  This variety is primarily used for Golf Courses, sports fields, parks, schools and commercial landscaping.  Note that GQ is only to be used for fall/winter overseeding in the Warm Climate Zone not in the spring and that the seed will function as an annual not a perennial due to warmer seasons.

Champion GQ has excellent resistance to common turf diseases including: Crown Rust, Grey Leaf Spot, Winter Netblotch, Large Brown Patch, Leaf Sport, Red Thread and good resistance to Stem Rust.
Since the initial outbreak in the mid-1990’s, Seed Research has been feverishly working to develop varieties that can withstand the ravages of Gray Leaf Spot (GLS). The initial GLS screening cycle has yielded varieties that are significantly more resistant to GLS than has ever been seen before — SR 4220, SR 4350, SR 4420, SR 4500 and SR 4550. The addition of SR 4600 adds the highest level of GLS resistance. All succeeding generations of our perennial ryegrasses will go through this grueling screening process before they are approved for blending in CHAMPION GQ.

This perennial ryegrass offers high levels of viable endophyte providing resistance to billbugs, sod webworms, chinch bugs, armyworms, and aphids.

Didn't grow at all.

We planted the rye seed, fertilized, watered, and nothing grew at all.

I love the look, and it makes my house stand out.

I love that the Champion GQ Perennial Ryegrass Seeds are dark green and are now sprouting up and spreading like a carpet. When you walk on the grass, it feels like a carpet. I sowed and planted the seeds from late September to October. They germinated from late November to December 2023 due to the abundance of rain we now receive in the Northern Virginia area. It took a while to germinate due to the hot and cold weather, and we are in a Transitional Zone, so most of our rain comes in late fall to winter. I love that the Champion GQ Perennial Ryegrass Seed is very dark green, short, soft to walk on, and looks great because it allows my lawn to stand out from my neighbor's. I will buy more Champion GQ Perennial Ryegrass seeds for the next planting cycle in 2024. KF
