For new turf applications, apply 1 - 2 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft.  Arden 15 Bermuda should be planted when soil temperatures are consistently above 65 degrees F. For best results, take a soil sample and follow fertility recommendations prior to planting. Care must be taken not to cover the seed with too much soil; no more than 1/4 in. covering over the seed is advised. After seeding, soil moisture in the root zone must be maintained for about 1 to 2 weeks. Germination may begin within 7 to 10 days. After the new turf is established, less frequent, deep watering is desirable.

Recommended mowing height is 3/16 to 1 in. with no more than 1/3 of the leaf blade removed per mowing. Full coverage may be attained with proper management in 4 to 6 weeks. This is a dense hybrid. Winter overseeding may be completed for year-round green color, but is generally not recommended on turf less than 6 months old.

A beautiful turf grass emerges…..slowly!

The product itself arrived rapidly, and expertly packaged. This was my first time with Arden 15 so I don’t have a frame of reference for comparison but Hancock’s product appears to be very high quality judging from the truly beautiful turf grass that is emerging…slowly. The conditions need to be *optimal* to produce germination, and since that is rarely possible, you should plan on a light supplemental seeding to compensate. Probably the biggest factor is water. If you think you can get germination with a once-daily light watering, you’re wrong. The seed needs to be kept wet-not even just moist- especially if it is warm outside. There is no room for error with this and you will just end up with fried seed if you don’t plan for this. And yes you will likely end up with some fungus but it’s a trade-off that even the experts say is inevitable. Treat once the grass has grown to the point where it looks like it will make it. Finally, plan on a three-week babysitting process. Yes you might see some germination at week 1 and week 2 but there will be seed that emerges at week 3 and the product is too expensive to waste by stopping the watering too early. Also I found- and others have recommended- that the emerging grass needs a fertilizer to give it a boost. A liquid would probably be ideal but a small granule will work- ideally one that is higher in phosphorus to begin with. The result is worth the effort and Hancock’s seed is excellent.

Low germination rate

Agreed with a previous review. Spent some quality work preparing soil and watering diligently with fertilizer. I think germination rate was about 10-25% max. Not sure if this is to be expected or not. Disappointing given it's one if the most expensive seed out there. Might want to spend the extra money for sod in this case.

Very low germination rate

My experience with Arden 15 was disappointing. The germination rate was very low. Lots of prep work was completed to prepare the soil, weather conditions were ideal, seed was kept moist but most of the seed never germinated. My prior experiences have been with a mid grade common Bermuda Grass seed. The quality of the grass itself wasn't the best but the germination rate was substantially better than Arden 15. For tor the cost, I would expected a better result.

I’ll buy another bag next season

Great. Seed germinated as fast as it said it would, and the color, density and blade texture are excellent. I’ll overseer again in the spring to fill in areas that didn’t come in as well this time.
