Daikon Radish Seed
Back

**Daikon Radish Seed is GMO-Free**

Daikon Radish is great for food plots, winter cattle forage and soil improvements. Daikon Radish tap root looks like carrots growing to lengths of 18 to 24 inches. Deer eat both the green top and the radish itself. Daikon Radish is also used in soil improvements as well as cover crop.  Daikon Radish is very aggressive and will germinate and thrive in most soils types around the world. Great for no till food plots!

Benefits of Daikon Radish in Food Plots
- Fast growing, will smother weeds
- Handles grazing pressure well - sprouts new growth quickly
- Protein levels in the top and root are better than 20%
- Radishes aerate and loosen compacted soil, even heavy clay

One of the biggest benefits behind Daikon Radish is its potential as a source of forage for both deer and cattle. Because the Daikon Radish is so hardy, it can thrive in almost climate and will continue to thrive even as Winter temperatures set in. This makes Daikon Radish a popular form of cattle forage during the Winter months as well. During the Summer, it's just as popular a source of forage because of its aggressive growing tendencies, and how quickly it sprouts new leaves after being consumed.

Daikon Radish have been a popular as a form of sustenance for residents of Southeast Asia for thousands of years. Thanks to its mild taste, it has found new audiences across the world in more recent years. Daikon Radishes can be stored for weeks, even without their leaves, if they are stored in a cool place. In Japanese cuisine, they are often pickled.

Obviously the large root leaves behind a significant cavity in the soil, making it an optimal option for breaking up soil, including heavy clays, for those who wish to plant new crop options in years to come. Studies have shown that this taproot leaves more than 6 to 10 inches of effect on soil compaction. The word "Daikon" actually translates to "big root" in Japanese!

One additional way to use your Daikon Radish is for the traditional Japanese art of Rokusho, patination or coloring of non-ferrous metals. One of the last steps in the process is to actually rub down the treated metal, which has traditionally been done for centuries by using a Daikon radish! Hancock Seed cannot, however, provide all the copper acetate, sodium hydroxide and other chemicals required for the process. Actually, we're just going to recommend you use this amazing root as a cover crop, wildlife forage option, or for your own table!

Rave Reviews

It's no secret why Hancock's Daikon Radish Seed is so popular. The answer is "because it works"! Here are a few of our favorite reviews from clients who have planted Hancock's Daikon Radish Seed.

"I planted my seed late afternoon on Friday last week, watered it on Saturday and in two days it w up and growing!" exclaims Teresa B. That is a quick return on planting! I am amazed and I like how it loosens our soil and increases organic nutrients and root depth for gardening in the spring all while adding a cover against winter winds. It must be able to mature in order to increase its ability to provide cover once heavy frost hits its done for the winter. I really like how it breaks up even the hardest compact soil. Thank you for making this seed available to garden growers like me. It's great seed at an affordable price and in a reasonably sized package for home gardeners as well as packaging for big time farmers."

"So far I'm pleased with my purchase, and I got the seeds real fast," writes Kim C. "I'll know more after I plant them and see what happens. It's kind of hard to write an informed review before I see if the seeds actually grow. They all look good and I didn't see any little stones in with them, they are very clean and uniform. I thing I'll have a great crop of Daikons for sure!"

"I bought 2 years ago and it was awesome the deer loved it and they eat the tops and when they were gone they eat the roots," says Everette, a hunter. "I planted the Bayou Kale this year and the deer loved it too. This coming fall I will mix the Daikon Radish with the Bayou Kale. Both are Great Products."

But deer aren't the only mammals that enjoy munching on Daikon radish! "I grew the Daikon as microgreens. I heard they have more than 30 times the nutrition as the adult plant," Kenneth S says. "The germination was really good. Plus really fast growth! Grew so fast i think when i grow a mix with the Daikon i will wait 3 days to add them. The flavor was not over powering and added a nice taste to salads and sandwiches."

And again, they're both hardy and widespread. "These radishes are wonderful. They grow anywhere including in red clay!" says Cecilia T. "In fact, they grow better in the ground at times than they do in a garden bed. They make big beautiful edible leaves, and the radishes are delicious and taste like turnips. Thank you for a great product at a great price."
