Bermuda Seed for Hay
Bermuda Seed for Hay - Planting Bermuda varieties offer excellent quality hay if proper management practices are followed. "Hay Type" or "Forage" Bermuda species are improved varieties to provide higher yields and higher nutritional value. Many hay type bermuda products are sold as "blends" containing a tall growing variety such as "Giant" bermuda, a medium growing bermuda such as "Common" bermuda and a low growing "Turf Type" bermuda such as majestic. By combining these three types of Bermuda grasses the overall yield is increased by providing a three stage or level of growth. There are few stand alone improved or hybrid forage bermuda products for hay production. The most popular stand alone or single species improved forage Bermuda varieties are "Wrangler" and "Cheyenne". These two varieties were specifically developed for cold tolerance, high yields as well as insect and disease resistance. Bermuda planting or seeding rates for hay fields range from 5 lbs. per acre to 15 lbs. per acre depending on the soil type and location.
