Product Details

  • Excellent low-maintenance permanent lawn or pasture
  • Very drought tolerant, and deep-rooted
  • Exceptional disease and insect resistance
  • Low watering requirements
  • The most environmentally-friendly lawn and pasture variety available

Product Information

Hancock’s Argentine Bahia grass seed is the best lawn grass and pasture grass seed available for southern climates, especially Florida. This variety makes an excellent low-maintenance permanent lawn grass or pasture grass for horses, cattle, and any type of livestock. Argentine Bahia grass is very drought tolerant, deep-rooted, and has exceptional disease and insect resistance.

Argentine Bahia Grass produces 10 to 12 feet of dense root structure, allowing for low watering requirements and is also the most environmentally-friendly lawn and pasture grass variety available for the warm season climates.

Coated seed contains a clay-based surrounding shell that increases moisture retention and helps to reduce insect or fowl consumption. Coated seed contains approximately 50% coating weight, or inert weight, per pound of seed. Coated Hancock's Argentine Bahia Grass Seed is also easier to see after it is applied. Raw seed features no fillers, coatings, or treatments.

Lawn Applications

For new Lawns, plant 5 to 10 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. The more seed applied to the lawn during the first planting, the faster the lawn will fully establish a sod or grass base and prevent future over seeding to fill in bare spots.

For overseeding an existing lawn, fill in bare spots by spreading the area by hand, or with a spreader. Remember to lightly rake in the seed no deeper than 1/4 in. to cover after spreading the seed. Use 2 to 5 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. to properly overseed the entire lawn, after removing as much unwanted dead or living vegetation. Argentine Bahiagrass is commonly used to replace bare or insect-damaged areas in Saint Augustine grass lawns in Florida.

For lawn Fertilization, apply 5-10 lbs. of 16-04-08 slow release fertilizer per 1,000 sq. ft., four times a year (late spring, mid-summer, late summer, and early fall) for the first two years. Apply 5 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. two times (mid-summer, and late summer) a year after a fully-established lawn has been accomplished.

Pasture Applications

For new pastures, plant 50 to 100 lbs. per acre.

For overseeding an existing pasture, rates depend on the amount of established or existing grass in the pasture area. Common applications for overseeding is 50 lbs. per acre.

For pasture fertilization, apply 250 - 350 lbs. of 16-04-08 slow release fertilizer per acre in late spring, mid-summer, and early fall. Animals that are grazing will damage the Bahiagrass pasture if the pasture is not properly fertilized annually. The grass must be provided with adequate nutrients to compete with the animals.

Seed didn't grow! Watered it twice a day for 3 weeks with no grass. Weeds grew prolifically. Had to plant sod instead.

4 Weeks After Planting, No Germination

Had very high hopes for this seed after reading reviews and doing research. 4 weeks after planting, little to no germination. Maybe 1-2% germination. Completed soil prep, lime, starter fertilizer, lightly raked in to recommended depth, watered daily. Very disappointed.
