Hancock's Killer Clover Seed Mix
Back

Hancock's customers have been asking us for a clover mixture for years, and this one won't disappoint! Hancock's Killer Clover Mix was designed to be a long-lasting, high-protein blend of perennial and reseeding annual clovers (with added alfalfa) to produce high-quality forage throughout the season.

Product Information

  • Application or Use: Ground Cover, Pasture, Food Plot, Cover Crop, Nitrogen-Fixing, Cover Crop, Cattle Forage, Livestock Grazing
  • Germination Time: 5 - 7 days, under optimal conditions
  • Growing Locations: Warm Season, Transition Zone, Cool Season
  • Height: 1- 3 feet
  • Sunlight Requirements: 4 - 6 hours
  • Advantages: Long lasting, high protein blend of perennial and annual clovers with added alfalfa. Comfortably planted in shady areas, giving this a significant competitive edge over other food plot blends.
  • When to Plant: Recommended planting time is fall and spring when night time temperatures are consistently below 65 degrees.

Hancock's Killer Clover Mix is designed to grow bigger bucks and attract larger deer. This mix provides an average of 25-30% crude protein, which equals bigger bucks, a healthier herd, and more offspring. Bucks, doe and fawn alike all require high protein nutrition year around for a herd to thrive and survive.

Hancock's Killer Clover Mixture will thrive where most others will not, even under heavy grazing. Our mix is cold-tolerant, and will draw the deer in for years with only one application! Hancock's Killer Clover Mix can last up to 4 years plus. Hancock's Killer Clover Food Plot Seed Mix can also be planted comfortably in shady areas, which gives it a significant competitive edge against other clover blends.

Hancock's Killer Clover Mix is scarified and pre-inoculated.

Hancock's Killer Clover Mix contains:
Ladino Clover
Arrowleaf Clover
Medium Red Clover
Alsike Clover
Alfalfa

Mixture is subject to change depending on availability

One of the side benefits to using a clover mix for a hunting plot is the investment in soil health. All clover returns some degree of Nitrogen to the soil on which its grown, and the Crimson Clover included in Hancock's Killer Clover Food Plot Seed Mix is especially efficient, returning more than 100 lbs. per acre annually. This makes the land better equipped for the next time you choose to plant a food plot, or even for crop use in the future.

Coated Seed vs Raw Seed

Coated seed contains a clay-based surrounding shell that increases moisture retention and helps to reduce insect or fowl consumption. Coated seed contains approximately 50% coating weight, or inert weight, per pound of seed. Hancock's Killer Clover Food Plot Seed Mix is also easier to see after it is applied. Raw seed features no fillers, coatings, or treatments. Hancock's Killer Clover Food Plot Seed Mix features a combination of raw and coated seed within its mix.

Rave Reviews

It's no secret why Hancock's Killer Clover Food Plot Seed Mix is so popular. The answer is "because it works"! Here are a few of our favorite reviews from clients who have planted Hancock's Killer Clover Food Plot Seed Mix:

I had planted some other company's clover mix in the 3rd week of August with terrible results after three weeks I hardly had any clover coming up," wrote Tim C. "I decided to replant my plot with the Killer Clover Mix, one week after I planted it I have a heavy clover mix coming up through out my field. What a difference from the garbage I planted originally and Hancock's seed. Just goes to show you what quality they have. Awesome product! Would definitely buy it again!"

"Best seed I've used to date so far," writes hunter Lee T. "I've used whitetail but this have out performed them twice-as-much over and the cost was way less than half the cost. As a typical blue collar hunter I don't have the money to lease my properties and invest a lot into maintaining it. I would definitely recommend to use this product as I said it out preformed the competition 50 to 1."

"I used some on my farm in the Mountains for Western North Carolina and mainly on my 100 acre hunting land in Upper Peninsula of Michigan to over-seed several plots last march that were turnips and beets the year before. Very impressed," says Scott Van Remortel. "Nice lush plot when I went back early summer. I had the crimson clover up and blooming visibly in the mix by mid to late June with bonus alfalfa in the clover pot. Crimson clover helps show you the fruit of your labor where you over-seeded. i will buy more. Deer loved it killed my buck in it."

And it grows quickly as well! "This is my second year using Hancock's products," reports Jonathan B. "I cleared, worked in fertilizer, and planted on a Thursday afternoon. One week later the clover was thick and almost 2 inches tall in some areas. It has pulled in several deer over the week. It is exactly what I was hoping for."

Remove all old vegetation to prepare a clean seedbed by means of a disc. Drag area to loosen and level any hard or uneven spots if necessary. Apply a slow-release starter fertilizer at the recommended rate of 250 lbs. per acre. Fertilize three times a year with a 10-10-10 fertilizer mix at a rate of about 300 lbs. per acre for best results.

Broadcast seed at recommended rate. Drag or roll lightly to cover the seed no more than 1/4 in. below surface. If you are overseeding an existing area, it is pertinent to mow existing grass low and incorporate seed 1/4 in. into soil for best results. Apply irrigation for approximately 30 minutes each evening until soil is damp, and germination has occurred. Irrigate newly-seeded areas every other day until the sprout reaches 6 in., then water recommended three times a week if needed.

Proper fertilization and maintenance is required for the longevity of this food plot. As our friend from the reviews—who maintains food plots in both North Carolina and the Upper Peninsula—Hancock's Killer Clover Food Plot Seed Mix will thrive in any of the three climate zones when planted with the correct soil temperature.
