Product Information

Red Ripper Cowpeas are a warm-season legume used as an added ingredient to spring, summer and fall food plots for wildlife. They are excellent for quail, dove and deer. Red Ripper Cowpeas produce forage in 55 days, and mature seed in 100 days. Red Ripper produces the abundant amounts of organic matter and nitrogen needed to enrich the soil.

Deer are highly fond of Cowpeas, which is fortunate because the Red Ripper Cowpeas provide a high level of protein that will help promote antler growth. Due to their preference, deer have been known to strip a newly-seeded area if it is heavily overpopulated. Red Ripper Cowpeas have become a favorite addition to deer forage food plot mixtures.

Aside from deer, Cowpeas also provide a food supply for turkey, rabbit, and quail. Turkey in particular will seek out Cowpea plots due to their preference for early seedlings. Once the plants have matured, they will attract insects that turkeys depend upon for their diet. In the late summer, the Red Ripper Cowpeas will produce seed in pods that make a superb food for turkey and quail.

Cowpeas are a highly-preferred annual season legume which is best used when planting a combination of plants for foraging wildlife food plots. Due to their ability to produce their own nitrogen in root modules, Iron Clay Cowpeas are a good choice for soil-building summer crops.

Due to their tolerances to cold and drought, Cowpeas are able to be planted anytime between March and June - soil temperatures should remain above 60 degrees to ensure the best germination and emergence. Red Ripper Cowpeas are fairly resilient once planted, and are able to germinate in a wide array of soils, but they still require the PH to be between 5.5 and 7.5. Once planted, the seeds should reach maturity in approximately 100 days

For cover crops, plant 30 - 50 lbs. per acre in April through August. Red Ripper Cowpeas work great for planting after your Spring garden to increase soil organics and prevent summer weed growth.

Doing great so far!

Came up in just a week and doing great. I planted them in areas that the corn didn't come up so we will see how that works out. I actually got the seed in about 3 weeks ago. I prepared the ground by tilling first and then broadcasted the seed the seed. I played the winter peas last year but they were out of them so decided to try these. Fast shipping too.
