This crop requires a soil pH of 5.5 to 6.0. A soil test can be used to determine the need for lime, phosphorous, and potassium. If Alyce Clover is planted immediately following a highly fertilized crop, such as watermelons, it may not be necessary to add additional lime or fertilizer.

MANAGEMENT AND UTILIZATION
Alyce Clover makes good quality hay if the crop is harvested before it is overly mature and if it is dried and baled without significant leaf loss. Hay should be cut when plants are 18 to 24" tall. A second cutting of hay is possible under favorable growing conditions. In many cases, Alyce Clover is planted late and only one hay cutting is made. This harvest should be made when the crop begins to flower. The crop may vary in height from 10 in to 3 ft.

Alyce Clover planted early (April or May) will be tall enough for hay in mid to late August, but frequent rainfall may prevent harvesting at this time. Harvest can be delayed from 4 to 6 weeks without a severe loss in feeding value.

Alyce Clover can be grazed after the plants are about 12" tall. The animals should be removed after the plants are grazed down in order to permit regrowth. Overgrazing could allow weeds to invade the stand. The first growth may be grazed down and animals removed and regrowth used for hay or seed production. Alyce Clover can be used in a creep graze system for calves. Four-month-old calves have gained an additional 0.3 to 0.5 lb/day until they were weaned when Alyce Clover was available in a creep pasture.

Seed yields of up to 600 lbs. / acre may be obtained. Seed may be combined directly or the plants may be mowed, cured in the swath, and then threshed with a combine with a pick-up attachment. The latter method will usually result in a larger amount of seed being saved. Harvest of seed should begin when about 1/2 of the seed pods are brown. This will usually occur about mid-October.

Apache Arrowleaf Clover Seed is Out of Stock for the season. If trying to manage for reseeding, reduce grazing pressure for about three weeks when in full flower.

Durana is highly persistent under grazing and is best used to enrich existing, unimproved cool or warm season grass pastures, especially if ridding a pasture of toxic fescue is not an option.~~~

Durana is highly persistent under grazing and is best used to enrich existing, unimproved cool or warm season grass pastures, especially if ridding a pasture of toxic fescue is not an option.

Product Information

Application or Use: Cattle Forage, Livestock Grazing, Food Plot, Cover Crop, Erosion Control, Nitrogen Fixer

Germination Time: 5 - 7 days, under optimal conditions

Growing Locations: Warm Season, Transition Zone, Cool Season

Height: 8 - 12 inches

Sunlight Requirements: 4 - 6 hours

Advantages: High quality forage, enriches pastures, captures atmospheric nitrogen.

When to Plant: Recommended planting time is spring and fall when night time temperatures are consistently below 65 degrees.

Product Details

Excellent for grazing fall through early summer

Increases the attractiveness and nutritional value of wildlife food plots

Durana-grass mixtures may be used for high-quality hay or silage

Best used to enrich existing cool or warm season grass pastures

Captures 50 to 125 lbs of atmospheric nitrogen per acre per year

Product Information

Research and ranch experiences repeatedly demonstrate the superior feed value of a white clover-grass mixture compared to grass alone. The sod should be grazed or mowed closely to remove excess forage and allow the clover to compete. Cut with a medium-to-lightweight disk or chopper before seeding is acceptable. Broadcasting is a common application method to interseed in an existing pasture. It is common to seed Persian clover with an annual winter grass. To maintain a good stand of clover after grazing, don't allow livestock to consume below 2 in. of plant material and rotate animals regularly to prevent overgrazing.

Regal Graze Ladino Clover Seed is Out of Stock for the season. Legumes have the unique ability to form a symbiotic relationship with rhizobia (Rhizobium and Bradyrhizobium) bacteria to convert atmospheric nitrogen gas to ammonia nitrogen, a form usable by the plant. This relationship occurs in specialized root tissue called nodules. Some legumes, such as alfalfa, can produce enough ammonia to supply all their nitrogen needs, hence nitrogen fertilization usually is not needed.

Information about inoculation
More and more people are interested in planting food plots for a variety of wildlife species. Unfortunately, few people understand what is involved to be successful. To begin, the planting must match the site (i.e., correct soil moisture, and temperature conditions). Next, the soil should be amended, as recommended from a soil test, for the plots to achieve their growth and nutritive potential. Assuming attention has been given to these factors, other details critical to success include seedbed preparation, inoculation and planting depth.

Many legumes (e.g., clovers, alfalfa, birdsfoot trefoil, soybeans, peas) are excellent choices for wildlife food plots. Legumes are plants that bear seed in a pod and have a symbiotic relationship with certain species of nitrogen-fixing bacteria (i.e., Rhizobium, Bradyyrizobium spp.). These bacteria attach themselves to the roots of the legumes and form nodules. From these nodules, the bacteria extract nitrogen from the air. Rhizobia obtain energy from the plant, while the plant receives nitrogen produced by the bacteria. Thus, both bacteria and plant benefit form the relationship. this phenomenon is important when planting wildlife food plots for three reasons: 1.) minimal nitrogen fertilization is required, 2.) nitrogen is not a limiting factor to properly inoculated plants and 3.) weed competition is reduced since little nitrogen fertilizer is applied.

Particular legumes require specific Rhizobia will inoculate all legumes. Therefore, it is important to use species-specific inoculant for for the legume being planted. Although Rhizobia, are found naturally in the soil, it is critical to inoculate seed prior to planting to ensure that the proper species of Rhizobia is in contact with the seed. Seed of many improved varieties of legumes may be pre-inoculated. This means that the seed has already been inoculated with the proper bacteria prior to bagging. Pre-inoculated seed is coated to protect the bacteria and usually has an off-white or pinkish color. Because the bacteria are present under the coating surrounding the seed, pre-inoculated seed do not need to be inoculated. Hay should be cut when plants are 18 to 24" tall. A second cutting of hay is possible under favorable growing conditions. In many cases, Alyce Clover is planted late and only one hay cutting is made. This harvest should be made when the crop begins to flower. The first growth may be grazed down and animals removed and regrowth used for hay or seed production. Alyce Clover can be used in a creep graze system for calves.
