University trials revealed Ameristand 403T scored the highest in best yield, best winter survival rating, and best grazing tolerance. Ameristand 403T is also adapted to much of the US, including the cool and transition zones.
Alfalfa is a cool season perennial legume that is a favorite summer long forage for deer and turkeys. Alfalfa is high in protein, and produces tons of high quality forage for wildlife. These plantings also attract beneficial insects for upland game birds and turkeys. Alfalfa is also an excellent companion crop for clover. Alfalfa is suited for a wide range of soils but does best on fertile well-drained sites.
